Overall Purpose of the Job

Lianhe Zaobao (LHZB) is Singapore’s leading Chinese-language news publication in Singapore. As LHZB continues to strengthen its offerings and to extend our reach to English-speaking audiences, we are looking for a Copy Editor who will be responsible for refining translated drafts into English articles, ensuring the depth of the original reporting in Chinese is preserved.

Key Responsibilities

• Editorial Review: Review and refine translated articles against original Chinese sources to ensure correct syntax, nuances, and usage.
• Fact-Checking & Contextual Accuracy: Identify information gaps and ensure content is accurate, sound and culturally accurate.
• Headline & Digital Craft: Craft clear, SEO-friendly headlines and subheadings that balance journalistic integrity with digital discoverability.
• Social Media Engagement: Partner our Audience Specialists to manage social media accounts, adapting editorial content into engaging posts and ideas that drive community interaction.
• Editorial Consistency: Adhering to LHZB’s standards and style guidelines to maintain a credible and consistent editorial voice across all English-language platforms.

This is a 2-year contract with a possibility of renewal based on performance and organisational needs.

Required Qualifications

• A Degree in relevant discipline; Prior experience in copy editing or journalism preferred.
• Excellent written English and strong proficiency in written Chinese. Ability to navigate confidently and accurately across both languages.
• Familiar with social media platforms and a good understanding of what drives audience consumption and engagement of online content.
• An eye for language, with the ability to spot subtle errors and editorial gaps.
• Strong interest in current affairs and the news landscape.
• Able to work independently but also connect with people and collaborate as a team in a fast-paced environment.
• 5 day work week on roster [inclusive of 1 day in weekend]
