Journalist, MAVU | 记者,资讯诚信与事实核查组
Overall Purpose of the Job
The Chinese Media Group (CMG) is establishing a new unit, the Misinformation Awareness and Verification Unit (MAVU), dedicated to strengthening information integrity in the digital age. Combining journalism, digital verification, and public education, the unit aims to produce trusted, evidence-based reporting, as well as develop practical verification tools and innovative ways of strengthening media literacy in Singapore and beyond.
We are seeking a curious and analytical individual with sound judgement, good writing skills, and a passion for fact-checking and digital investigations.
You should be comfortable using digital tools to uncover evidence and get to the bottom of a story. Whether analysing misinformation or investigating new digital trends, you will transform complex data into compelling, evidence-based journalism for the public. Experience in investigative reporting, digital forensics, cybersecurity, intelligence, or other analytical fields is an advantage, but not essential.
This role reports to the Editor of the new unit, which goes beyond a traditional fact-checking desk to develop practical tools, educational content, and innovative solutions that help people navigate today’s increasingly complex information landscape in Singapore, Southeast Asia, and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct digital investigations into online claims, AI-generated content, and emerging misinformation trends using open-source research, verification techniques, and other digital investigative methods.
- Produce clear, evidence-based journalism and explanatory content that helps audiences understand complex digital issues and navigate today's information landscape.
- Monitor developments across digital platforms to identify newsworthy stories, emerging misinformation narratives, and information threats relevant to Singapore and the region.
- Collaborate with editorial, product, and technology teams to develop innovative storytelling formats, verification tools, and public education initiatives.
- Contribute to the growth of the unit by strengthening verification methodologies, editorial standards, and best practices, while keeping abreast of emerging technologies and digital investigative techniques.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication studies, data science and analytics, computer science, or a related discipline.
- At least two years of journalistic experience in a fast-paced multimedia newsroom, or equivalent experience in digital verification, digital investigations, intelligence analysis, or other relevant analytical fields.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English. Fluency in Chinese is required to effectively monitor Chinese social media and messaging platforms, and to analyse and verify Chinese-language misinformation. Proficiency in other languages such as Malay, Bahasa Indonesia, or Thai would be an advantage.
- Demonstrated curiosity, persistence, and the ability to independently pursue complex lines of enquiry using digital research and investigative methods.
- Knowledge of open-source intelligence (OSINT), basic data analysis, AI research tools, and online verification techniques, alongside proficiency in using digital tools to organise data and uncover research leads.
- Familiar with social media platforms and user behaviour across Singapore and Asia, including knowledge of Chinese social media and messaging platforms.
- Additional skills in video, podcast production, interviewing, graphic design, or photography would be an advantage.
To Apply
Please send us your CV together with a brief cover letter (300-500 words) answering the following:
- Describe a digital investigation, verification exercise, or data-driven story that you found particularly interesting (whether your own work or someone else’s).
- Tell us what made it compelling and how you would have approached the investigation, explaining the tools or methods used.
(Note: Please ensure you answer the questions above and attach your submission when applying. Incomplete applications without these answers will not be considered.)
