About the Role

Founded in 1935, Tamil Murasu is Singapore's only Tamil-language newspaper. Tamil Murasu is the main information source for the Tamil-speaking Indian community, with coverage ranging from current affairs and local and foreign news to the latest in sports and entertainment, as well as strong coverage of news from the Indian community and the sub-continent. The newspaper has established itself as a voice for the Tamil-speaking community in Singapore.

tabla!, the Tamil Murasu’s English-language weekly tabloid, started in 2008, is a free weekly English-language newspaper published every Friday in Singapore. It also has a website that publishes news daily. It is aimed at the wider Indian community of Singapore as well as the Indian diaspora. It provides a mix of local and Indian news relevant to the community.

As a Video/Photojournalist, you would be required to shoot stills and videos for our multimedia platforms. You will develop concepts, produce videos for web and mobile platforms, and capture newsworthy events and people through the lens to make news reports more interesting. You may be expected to present or do voice-overs in the videos you or the journalists produce.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Collaborate with journalists and/or alone on news content assignments

• Post and manage all videos for publication on various media platforms, including social media.

• Shoot and edit videos and photos

Required Qualifications

• Relevant Diploma or Degree in Marketing, Communications, Advertising, Video Production, Journalism, or any relevant field

• At least two years of relevant experience.

• Ability to set up, light, write, shoot, edit and package the videos for final publishing. 

• Familiar with handling professional-level DSLR and video cameras

• Proficient in Adobe Premiere Pro, other Adobe Creative Cloud applications, Canva, CapCut, or other editing software. 

• Demonstrates ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.

• Ability to produce quality work in a fast-paced environment.

• Well-organised and a self-starter, capable of managing multiple projects.

• Experience in social media platforms and management systems

• Effectively bilingual (English/Tamil) to be able to cater to the Tamil Murasu audience.

• Willingness to work on weekends/public holidays
